Scope of Work:

The organ donor memorial I created represents a celebration of life and tribute to organ donors and their families. Butterflies symbolize the renewal of life through transplantation. The original project scope was to create an engraved tree and butterfly design on a set of existing windows in the main hospital corridor. After conducting user group studies, meetings with architects, builders, and material reps it was concluded that an alternate location must be selected due to concerns with structure, safety, and durability. In order to retain the impact of the memorial and prime location, I worked to design a similar concept on an adjacent wall.

Multiple iterations were designed, presented, and revised before committing to a final design. Below I’ve included some of the drawings and iterations that helped lead to the design selected.

The final installation measures 11’3” W x 3’2” L and consists of 3form™ high resolution pressed glass mounted on stand-offs in front of textured panels with a printed wood design.  Materials were manufactured by 3form™ and installed by American Builders based on renderings that were provided with digital illustrations. My goal was to provide a dynamic experience whether walking past the installation or standing close. Attention was placed on each the butterfly to invite viewers to take a closer look and butterflies also flow and convey moment when viewed walking past or at a distance.
